Spiders Force Recall of 52,000 Mazda Sedans

How about this one for FREAKY….
from KTLA.com
Mazda is recalling about 52,000 Mazda6 sedans in the U.S., because yellow sac spiders like to build their nests in part of the fuel system.
“A certain type of spider may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line and this may cause a restriction of the line,” Mazda said in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The evaporative canister vent line runs from a charcoal-filled canister that cleans air coming out of the gas tank. Blockage of the line can prevent air from getting into the gas tank as the gasoline is used, resulting in negative air pressure inside the tank. That can lead to a crack in the gas tank and the possibility of a fire.
There have been 20 reported cases of spider infestation in the Mazda6 — all have been in cars with 4-cylinder engines, none with V6’s. No actual fires are known to have been caused by the spiders, according to Mazda’s letter.
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, repair the fuel system in the cars. A spring will also be installed to prevent spider intrusion, according to the letter.
Letters will be mailed to owners of affected vehicles beginning at the end of this month.

DRAGONFLY

I used to have a home, but one day, my owner moved and left me behind! The staff here at Animal Friends told me not to worry; these things happen sometimes and that a new owner will come find me.

I am a bit unsure of myself so it takes me a bit of time to warm up to people. I am also a little unsteady on my feet and I have a bit of a headtilt., and I can’t get enough of chasing those laser lights! but I’m always willing to spend some quiet time sitting on your lap. I like to snuggle sometimes, but everything in moderation — I’ll let you know when I’ve had enough. I like other cats, so if you have other cats at home, it won’t be a problem for me!

So what do you say? I could be the cat for you, please stop by Animal Friends and ask to meet me!

Daytona Bike Week 70th March 4th-13th

If your heading down to Daytona you should be in for a kickin’ year.  2011 marks the 70th annual event and from the looks of things Daytona is going to be celebrating big.  As usual you can find daily happenings at all the major hot spots such as the Broken Spoke, Full Moon, Boot Hill Saloon, Destination Daytona, Irongate Saloon, Limp Nickie Lot, Dog House, Gillys, the Cabbage Patch and all the other fun spots to hit.  Of course don’t forget all the racing that will be going down at the speedway, after all the races are what this event is really all about. There will also be bike show, after bike show, after bike show. Looking for some old cool treasures, be sure to hit up the Limp Nickie swap meet, this will be for serious hunters only as it was stated no vendors will be allowed carrying those feather roach clips and trinkets like that. There will be plenty of guided rides you can go on, one special one being the Harley Davidson’s Women’s MDA ride on March 8th.   Of course another great attraction is the beach, how about jaunting out of town for a ride and then spending the afternoon relaxing in the sand. We also highly recommend you hit up the Ormand beach Union Church Pancake breakfast, nothing like supporting the local community, not to mention you get the best food at the best prices at these events and top it off with some of the best conversations with the people you will meet.   One last thing, while your in Daytona be sure to check the site for updates from Sara as she reports with Rally TV, we will have a post on that soon.  You can check this out to see all the excitement and find out what’s going on, if you can’t make it to Daytona, Rally TV will share with you all that you missed.  Ride safe!

FOXY

Hello!!! I’m Foxy!! Want to play?! I love to play – let’s chase a ball and run around together!

I’m Foxy and I’m one beautiful lady. I love people and to tell the truth, I’m not so sure that I’m not one of them. I know I’m better than all these other dogs I see running around…I’d rather hang out with you!

I’m very affectionate with people I know, and if I’m properly introduced I can do well with strangers too. I can be a little territorial, so I’m not a good match for young kids. I’m much happier with adults and playing with toys, or just being with you while you putter around the house. I could stand to be crate-trained as I still have a little trouble remembering where to go the bathroom…but I just need a little help!

Do you have room for a fuzzy little orange fireball at your house? Then come visit me, Foxy at Animal Friends!
